About

Jake is the Wild Archer. A fiercely independent humanist with a background in technology, privacy, security, religion, and of course, archery. This is his blog.

About

Hello and welcome to Wild Archer! My name is Jake, and I'm excited to share this space with you. I created this blog as a personal repository of the knowledge, skills, and experiences I've gathered over the years. The name "Wild Archer" comes from a blend of my personality and hobbies—I'm known for my fiercely independent and somewhat feral approach to life, and I have a deep bond with archery, a sport that my family and I practice regularly.

What to Expect on Wild Archer

Here, you'll find a wide array of content. As a technology professional, I'll be sharing guides and insights on Linux, macOS, internet protocols, and computer networking. Beyond tech, I'll delve into my other interests like botany, dog training, music & literature. This blog is a place for anyone in their 30s or 40s—or anyone with a curious mind—to find useful information and maybe even a bit of inspiration.

My Journey in Technology

My professional journey has taken me from a help desk technician to a federal government director, and currently, a project manager. While I won't be offering professional advice (to avoid any legal complications), I'll provide practical, real-world insights. I enjoy creating useful tools and look forward to sharing projects with you.

Life Experiences and Challenges

I've faced unique challenges that have shaped who I am. My life feels like a series of adventures—from traversing the remote backlands of Uganda to rescue an orphan, to eliminating digital threats. This broad range of experience has given me a perspective and a wealth of stories and insights to share.

Pragmatic & Free Thinking

I'm a big thinker, always looking at things from multiple angles. As a humanist pagan I focus on the natural rhythms of the world and the science that governs it. No magic or deities. I'll explore topics such as psychology, physics, and other sciences from a deeply pragmatic point-of-view. My ultimate understanding of a pagan is a free thinker who is capable of changing their world and comfortable challenging norms. I won't be casting fireball anytime soon but I am interested in the physics and chemistry behind the concept.

Looking Ahead

Initially, I'll be quietly building content on this blog over the next year. Every time I come up with a useful idea or need to explain something, I'll document it here. This will help me develop a rich library of content that I can share and reference. Once I have a solid foundation, I'll start promoting Wild Archer and seeking feedback to improve the blog's content, branding, and engagement.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope Wild Archer becomes a valuable resource for you, just as it is for me.

Stay wild,

Jake
